Quick answer
Install the ASHR Slack app to your workspace, then each person types /ashr connect once to link their account. After that you can apply for leave, punch attendance, fetch a payslip link, raise a helpdesk ticket, look a colleague up, ask for equipment, approve what is waiting on you and complete signature check-ins without leaving Slack.
One-time setup
Admin installs the app
A workspace admin adds the ASHR app to your Slack workspace via the standard Slack authorisation screen. This is done once per company.Everyone connects
Each person types /ashr connect in any Slack channel or DM and clicks the secure link. This ties your Slack user to your ASHR profile — once, then never again.

Attendance, payslips, tickets, directory and assets
These commands run the exact rule the matching web screen runs — there is no separate Slack version of any of them.
- Check in / out —
/ashr checkinand/ashr checkoutpunch the same attendance record as the button on the Attendance page and reply with today's status. If your company requires a selfie or your location to punch, Slack cannot supply either, so the command tells you to punch from ASHR.work instead. The punch is recorded as coming from Slack. - Payslip —
/ashr payslipreplies with a private link to your latest payslip;/ashr payslip 2026-07names a month. The link works for 15 minutes and only for you, and only for payslips on locked payroll runs — the PDF is never posted into Slack. - Helpdesk —
/ashr ticket my laptop charger diedraises a ticket in your company's catch-all category at medium priority; agents re-route it from the queue./ashr ticketslists your open tickets with their status. - Directory —
/ashr find <name>returns at most five matches with name, title, team, manager and work email. Personal contact details appear only if you could see them on that person's profile in ASHR.work; nothing more sensitive is ever shown in Slack. - Assets —
/ashr asset request a second monitorraises the same request as the Assets page, for an asset admin to approve and fulfil.
Clearing your approvals
/ashr approvals is one inbox for everything waiting on you as an approver:
leave requests, payroll runs in review, expense claims, asset requests and
offboarding clearance tasks — each only if you hold the role that decides it,
and only for modules your company has switched on. Every Approve / Reject
button calls the same rule as the web button, records the decision in the
audit log, and is refused if your workspace's subscription has lapsed. Rejecting
an expense claim asks for a reason, which the claimant sees.
Giving kudos from Slack
Type /ashr kudos @colleague why they deserve it. The kudos posts in the
channel and lands on the Recognition page and the company feed, exactly as if
you had given it on the web — same rules, including that you can't recognise
yourself.
The person you are recognising needs to have linked their own ASHR account with
/ashr connect. If they haven't, the command tells you who is missing and sends
nothing, rather than guessing which ASHR account you meant.
What comes to you automatically
- Leave requests to approve — managers get a DM with Approve / Reject buttons the moment someone applies. One click and it's done.
- A daily leave digest — who's off today, so nobody has to ask.
- Appraisal notifications — when a review needs your attention.
- Signature check-ins — your recurring reflection prompts arrive as a DM, with friendly reminders if you forget.
- App Home tab — open the ASHR app in Slack's sidebar for an at-a-glance view without any commands.
Is it secure?
Yes — convenience doesn't cost safety here. Every request between Slack and
ASHR.work is cryptographically signed and verified, the connection tokens are
stored encrypted separately for each company, and actions are only possible
from the Slack user you explicitly linked with /ashr connect.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need to connect my account every time?
- No — /ashr connect is a one-time step. After that the app knows who you are.
- Is it safe to approve leave from Slack?
- Yes. Every message between Slack and ASHR.work is signed and verified, tokens are stored encrypted per company, and only your linked Slack user can act as you.
- What can managers do from Slack?
- Approve or reject leave requests straight from the DM notification, and clear everything waiting on them — leave, payroll runs in review, expense claims, asset requests and offboarding tasks — with /ashr approvals. Each button runs the same rule as the web button, and every decision is recorded in the audit log.
- Is my payslip posted into Slack?
- No. /ashr payslip replies with a private link that works for 15 minutes and only for you; the PDF itself is never attached to a Slack message.
- Can I see a colleague's phone number with /ashr find?
- Only if you could see it on their profile in ASHR.work — HR, the person themselves, or their manager. Everyone else sees name, title, team, manager and work email, and never more than five results.
- Do I still need the web portal?
- For everyday tasks, rarely. Admin work — payroll, settings, reports, org changes — still happens on the web.
- What if I typed a command wrong?
- Just type /ashr help to see everything the app can do.
